Commissioned for the Public Arts Festival at Floyd Bennett Field—NYC’s first municipal airport, now part of Gateway National Recreation Area—this site-specific digital video artwork was projection-mapped onto the 11,000-square-foot historic brick-and-glass façade of Hangars 3 & 4 during a weekend-long celebration of the park’s rich history and vibrant future.
The piece reinterprets the site through the whimsical concept of "animal musicians," casting the land's native wildlife as its legendary composers and performers.
Ⅰ. Gliding Dreams: As a fisherman sails into the wetlands, crabs beat their shell-drums to the ancient rhythms of the Lenape tidal marshes, joined by swarms of luminescent jellyfish that awaken a magical world of sound.
Ⅱ. Soaring Free: Amid glowing fireflies and fluttering Luna moths, avian flutists take flight as starlight merges with aircraft landing lights—seamlessly weaving aviation history with natural wildlife to celebrate humanity's harmony with nature.
Ⅲ. Joyful Revels: On a coastal stage, the animal ensemble gathers for a grand finale, coming together to celebrate, unwind, and lose themselves in the music.
By intertwining nature, history, and aviation through these imaginative performers, the artwork invites audiences to experience the vibrant possibilities of living in resonance with the natural world.
